Quick answer

What is CO2 fractional laser?

CO2 fractional laser is an ablative resurfacing treatment that vaporises thousands of microscopic columns of skin with a carbon dioxide laser beam. The untouched skin between them speeds healing, while deep wound repair remodels collagen to smooth acne scars, wrinkles, enlarged pores and rough texture. Expect redness, swelling and fine crusting for about 5–7 days.

Texture improves visibly within 2–4 weeks and keeps refining for months as collagen matures. Depth and density are set from gentle rejuvenation to deep scar revision, depending on your skin and how much downtime you can plan.

A good fit if you…

  • have moderate acne scars or textural damage
  • want a stronger result than non-ablative lasers
  • can allow about a week of recovery in Seoul
  • will follow strict sun protection afterward

Consider alternatives if you…

  • have active acne, herpes or infection
  • used isotretinoin recently or form keloid scars
  • have a tan or are prone to strong pigmentation without pre-care
  • cannot avoid sun exposure in the following weeks

FAQ

CO2 fractional laser questions we hear most

Can’t find your answer? Message our English-speaking team on WhatsApp.

How long is CO2 laser downtime?

Most people have redness, swelling and fine crusting for 5–7 days; pinkness can last a few weeks and is covered with makeup once the skin has healed.

How many CO2 sessions do I need for acne scars?

Typically 1–3 sessions 1–3 months apart, often combined with subcision or PRP. See acne scar removal.

Does CO2 laser hurt?

Numbing cream is applied for about 45 minutes; you feel heat and prickling during the 30–45 minute treatment, and warmth for a few hours after.

What are the risks?

Temporary redness, swelling and post-inflammatory pigmentation are the most common. Infection and scarring are uncommon with correct aftercare and sun protection.

Can I fly after CO2 laser?

Yes, but plan about a week in Seoul so crusts can shed and your doctor can check healing before you leave.
