Quick answer

What is pico laser?

Pico laser delivers energy in picoseconds (trillionths of a second), so pigment is shattered mainly by a pressure effect rather than heat. The tiny fragments are cleared by the body, fading freckles, sun spots, lentigines and other brown pigment with less heating of the surrounding skin than older nanosecond lasers. Low-energy pico toning is also used for dull, uneven tone.

Spots usually fade over 1–3 sessions; diffuse pigment and tone need a series of 3–5 or more. Melasma is treated cautiously with low settings as part of a wider plan.

FAQ

Pico laser questions we hear most

Can’t find your answer? Message our English-speaking team on WhatsApp.

Is pico laser better than Q-switched laser?

Pico pulses are shorter, so pigment is broken into finer fragments with less heat. That can mean fewer sessions for some spots and lower irritation, though both have a place.

Does pico laser hurt?

It feels like quick snapping. Numbing cream is used for spot treatment; toning is usually comfortable without it.

Can pico laser treat melasma?

It can help as low-energy toning within a combined plan, but melasma is chronic and can recur. See melasma treatment.

How many sessions do I need?

Distinct spots often fade in 1–3 sessions; diffuse pigment and tone need 3–5 or more, about 2–4 weeks apart.

What aftercare is needed?

Use gentle cleansing, moisturiser and daily SPF 50. Leave crusts to fall off on their own to avoid post-inflammatory pigmentation.
