Quick answer

What is tear trough filler?

Tear trough filler is a non-surgical injection of soft hyaluronic acid (HA) into the groove that runs from the inner corner of the eye toward the cheek. Restoring lost volume there reduces the shadow that makes the eyes look tired or dark, without surgery. The change is visible right away and settles over about two weeks.

Because under-eye skin is thin, product choice, depth and quantity matter more here than anywhere else on the face. At MIN Clinic small amounts are placed with a cannula or fine needle and built up conservatively.

What tear trough filler can improve

Your doctor first checks whether the shadow comes from hollowness, pigment, blood vessels or fat bulging, because each needs a different approach.

01

Deep tear trough groove

Softens the line between eyelid and cheek.

02

Hollow, tired look

Restores smooth support under the eye.

03

Shadow-type dark circles

Reduces darkness caused by hollowness.

04

Lid–cheek transition

Blends the under-eye into the upper cheek.

A good fit if you…

  • have a visible groove or hollowness under the eyes
  • look tired even after a good night’s sleep
  • want a subtle, natural refresh without surgery
  • have reasonably firm lower-eyelid skin

Consider alternatives if you…

  • mainly have bulging fat pads — see under-eye fat
  • have brown or vascular dark circles — see Dual Dark Injection
  • have chronic under-eye puffiness or fluid retention
  • are pregnant, breastfeeding or have an active infection

Why the tear trough needs an experienced injector

The under-eye is one of the most technical filler areas.

The skin here is thin, so filler placed too superficially or in too large a volume can look puffy or show a bluish tint (the Tyndall effect). There are also important blood vessels nearby.

  • We use soft, low-swelling hyaluronic acid suited to the under-eye.
  • Product is placed deep, close to the bone, in small amounts.
  • A blunt cannula is often used to reduce bruising.
  • HA filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if ever needed — see filler dissolving.

FAQ

Tear trough filler questions we hear most

Can’t find your answer? Message our English-speaking team on WhatsApp.

Does tear trough filler hurt?

Most patients feel only light pressure. Numbing cream is applied first, and many fillers contain lidocaine to keep the area comfortable.

How long does tear trough filler last?

Under-eye filler often lasts around 9–12 months or longer, because the area moves relatively little. Longevity depends on the product, your metabolism and your lifestyle.

Can tear trough filler make my eyes look puffy?

It can if too much product is used or it sits too superficially. We use small amounts of soft HA placed deep, and HA can be dissolved if needed.

What are the risks?

Common effects are mild swelling and bruising. Rare risks include lumps, a bluish tint and vascular complications, which is why the procedure is done only by physicians.

Can I fly home after tear trough filler?

Usually yes, a day or two later. We recommend scheduling it early in your trip so we can check the result before you leave.
